I'm the girl that went from circus performer to MBA graduate. I love the beach, iced coffee, Mexican food, a tequila cocktail, horses, and slow mornings. My goal? To help others find their version of success and stop living for someone else's.
Starting a business is exciting—until you realize no one knows you exist. You’re posting on Instagram, sending a few emails, maybe even running ads, but nothing seems to stick. Sound familiar?
If you’re a new business owner feeling like you’re doing all the things and still not seeing results, you’re not alone. Most people don’t have a marketing problem—they have a strategy problem.
Let’s break down the four biggest marketing mistakes I see new business owners make (and how to fix them before they cost you time, money, and momentum).
Just because you’re active on social media doesn’t mean you have a marketing plan. Content is part of marketing—but it’s not the whole picture.
The Fix:
Start by defining your goal. Are you trying to build brand awareness? Drive traffic? Convert leads into paying customers? Once you’re clear on what you’re trying to do, your content and marketing efforts can actually work toward that goal instead of just spinning wheels.
It’s easy to get caught up in “doing” without stopping to think about why. New business owners often jump straight into creating logos, building websites, or setting up ads before they’ve clarified their message or target audience.
The Fix:
Take a breath and back it up. Ask:
With those answers, your marketing strategy becomes a whole lot clearer—and a whole lot more effective.
Trying to appeal to “anyone who needs what I offer” is the fastest way to get ignored. Broad messaging is forgettable. Specific messaging connects.
The Fix:
Niche down. Get laser-focused on who you’re speaking to. Use their words, address their pain points, and show that you get it. When people feel seen and understood, they’re much more likely to buy.
Marketing takes time. One post, one email, or one week of consistency isn’t enough. I see so many new business owners try something once, see crickets, and assume it doesn’t work.
The Fix:
Give your strategy time to work. Track your metrics. Adjust what’s not working, but don’t throw in the towel too soon. Building brand trust and visibility is a long game—and consistency always wins.
Marketing doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does need to be intentional. If you’re making any of these mistakes, don’t panic—we’ve all been there. The good news? Every one of them is fixable, starting today.
Inside my course, The Marketing Blueprint, I walk you through exactly how to create a simple, strategic marketing plan that actually drives results—without burning out or guessing your way through it.
